We recommend arriving around 10 minutes before your scheduled flight. This gives you plenty of time to park, complete any necessary paperwork, ask questions, and enjoy the anticipation as your flight is prepared.

Before You Fly
Before taking to the skies, we'll spend a few minutes getting you ready for your Tiger Moth adventure.
Your pilot will give you a thorough safety briefing, explaining how to climb into the aircraft, fasten your harness, use the communication headset and what to expect during the flight. You'll also have plenty of opportunity to ask questions—whether you're curious about the aircraft, the route or simply wondering what flying in an open cockpit feels like.
If you've chosen one of our aerobatic experiences, we'll explain each manoeuvre before you fly and make sure you're comfortable with what's planned. Nothing will come as a surprise, and your comfort and enjoyment are always our priority.
Once everything is ready, you'll watch as the Tiger Moth comes to life in the traditional way—with the propeller hand-swung to start the engine. It's a wonderful reminder that you're about to experience aviation just as it was in the 1930s.
After a final check, you'll taxi out, line up on the runway, and in just a few moments the Tiger Moth will lift gently into the sky, beginning an unforgettable journey over the Yarra Valley.

What to Wear
Flying in an open-cockpit Tiger Moth is unlike travelling in a modern aircraft, so dressing appropriately will help you stay comfortable and enjoy every minute of your flight.
We recommend wearing comfortable, casual clothing that's suitable for the day's weather. Even on warm days, the airflow in the open cockpit can feel cooler once you're airborne, so bringing a light jumper or an extra layer is always a good idea. During the cooler months, warm layers, a windproof jacket and gloves will help keep you comfortable.
Please wear enclosed, flat shoes such as runners or walking shoes. High heels, sandals and loose footwear aren't suitable for flying.
To complete the authentic vintage flying experience, we provide a classic leather flying jacket, a leather flying helmet with an integrated headset, and a pair of traditional flying goggles. Not only do they help keep you comfortable in the open cockpit, they also make for fantastic photographs before and after your flight.
Loose items such as scarves, hats and anything that could be caught by the wind should be left safely on the ground or securely stored before your flight. You'll have the opportunity to leave personal belongings in the hangar while you're in the air.

Your safety and enjoyment are our highest priorities. Every flight is conducted in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations, and our beautifully restored de Havilland Tiger Moth is maintained to the highest standards by qualified aircraft maintenance engineers.
Before every flight, the aircraft undergoes a thorough pre-flight inspection, and your pilot will provide a comprehensive safety briefing so you'll know exactly what to expect before leaving the ground.
You'll be securely fitted with a full safety harness and an integrated headset, allowing you to communicate with your pilot throughout the flight. If at any stage you'd like to ask a question or simply let us know how you're feeling, we're only a button press away.
Your comfort is just as important as your safety. Flight routes are selected to provide the best possible experience while taking weather conditions into account, and we won't fly unless the conditions are suitable for both safety and enjoyment. If poor weather prevents your flight from going ahead, we'll happily reschedule your booking for another day.

Before your flight, you're welcome to take photographs with the aircraft while it's parked outside the hangar. Dressed in your leather flying jacket, helmet and goggles, you'll look every bit the vintage aviator, making for some unforgettable keepsake photos.
Family and friends are welcome to take photographs and videos as you prepare for departure, watch the Tiger Moth's traditional hand-swung engine start, and capture your take-off and landing. These are often some of the most memorable moments of the day.
You're welcome to take photographs and videos during your flight as well. Just remember that an open cockpit comes with plenty of wind! Phones and cameras can easily be torn from your grasp if they're not held securely, so please take extra care whenever using them in the air.

Do I need any flying experience?
Not at all. Our flights are designed for everyone, whether it's your very first time in a light aircraft or you're a seasoned aviation enthusiast. Your pilot will provide a full safety briefing before your flight.
What happens if the weather isn't suitable?
Safety always comes first. If the weather isn't suitable for flying, we'll contact you to reschedule your flight for another day. We want you to enjoy your Tiger Moth experience in the best possible conditions.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, casual clothing and enclosed shoes are recommended. We provide a classic leather flying jacket, leather flying helmet with an integrated headset, and traditional flying goggles to complete your vintage flying experience.
Can I bring family and friends?
Absolutely! Family and friends are welcome to come along, watch your departure and arrival, take photographs, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our hangar while they wait.
Can I take photos during the flight?
Yes. You're welcome to take photographs and videos during your flight. Just remember that the open cockpit creates a strong airflow, so please make sure your phone or camera is held securely at all times.
Will I be able to talk to the pilot?
Yes. Your flying helmet includes an integrated headset, allowing you to communicate with your pilot throughout the flight.
Will I get airsick?
Most passengers don't experience any discomfort. If you've booked an aerobatic flight, your pilot will explain what to expect beforehand and will always prioritise your comfort. If you have any concerns, please let us know before your flight.
Is there an age limit?
Children are welcome to fly, provided they meet our minimum height limit of 140cm and can be safely secured in the aircraft. If you're unsure whether a flight is suitable, please contact us and we'll be happy to discuss your individual circumstances.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes. For safety and aircraft performance reasons, a passenger weight limit or 100kg applies. If you have any questions about whether the flight is suitable for you, please get in touch before booking.
How long should I allow for my visit?
Although the flight itself may only be 20 to 60 minutes depending on the experience you've chosen, we recommend allowing around 60 to 90 minutes for your visit. This gives you time to enjoy the pre-flight briefing, take photographs, relax after your flight and soak up the unique atmosphere of Lilydale Airport.
